The 18th Annual Harmony Iftar returns on February 28, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Sir John A. Macdonald Building, featuring a program that honours rich cultural traditions and shared stories.
Founded in 2009, Harmony Iftar has grown into a meaningful and widely recognized community initiative dedicated to fostering dialogue, understanding, and unity among people of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. What began as a simple gathering has evolved into a staple annual event that brings together Muslims and non-Muslims to share the experience of breaking the fast during the holy month of Ramadan.

At its core, Harmony Iftar is built on the belief that sharing a meal is one of the most powerful ways to connect people. The iftar provides a welcoming and inclusive space where individuals from different communities, faiths, and walks of life can come together around the same table. Through this shared moment, barriers are broken, conversations are sparked, and meaningful relationships are formed.

The primary objective of Harmony Iftar is to promote mutual respect, social cohesion, and peaceful coexistence. By inviting people of all backgrounds to participate, the event encourages open dialogue and helps dispel misconceptions surrounding Islam and Muslim communities. It offers an opportunity for learning, empathy, and cultural exchange in an atmosphere rooted in warmth and hospitality.

Harmony Iftar also aims to celebrate and champion cultural and religious diversity as a strength rather than a challenge. In a world often divided by misunderstanding and fear, the event serves as a powerful reminder that diversity enriches our communities. It demonstrates that people of different beliefs and traditions can not only coexist peacefully, but also collaborate, support one another, and grow stronger together.
Beyond the shared meal, Harmony Iftar often includes moments of reflection, educational discussions, and community engagement that highlight the values of compassion, generosity, and solidarity central to Ramadan. These values resonate universally and help build bridges between communities while reinforcing a shared commitment to peace and understanding.

Over the years, Harmony Iftar has become more than just an event—it is a symbol of unity and hope. Through the dedication of volunteers, community partners, and supporters, it continues to create meaningful connections and inspire a spirit of harmony that extends well beyond the month of Ramadan.
